Trash Collection

The Royal Oak Township Board of Trustees selected GFL Services as the community’s service provider for residential collection and disposal, yard waste, and large item disposal. GFL’s contract began on November 1, 2014 for a five year term.

Service Day

The pickup day for Royal Township is FRIDAYPlease have your trash, yard waste, bulky waste and recycling out for collection by 7:00 AM, but NOT BEFORE Thursday evening.

Holidays

GFL Services observes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1)
  • Memorial Day (last Monday of May)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (first Monday of September)
  • Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday of November)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)

If a holiday falls on your scheduled pickup day, service will be delayed by one day.

Household Waste

Household waste should be placed in either plastic trash bags or plastic/metal containers that are no larger than 32 gallon size. Please do not overload containers. On collection day, trash should be placed at the curb in front of your home, away from vehicles, mailboxes, trees or other obstacles, by 7:00 AM.

Bulky Waste

Bulky waste, such as appliances and furniture, may be placed for collection on the normal pickup day. You may also call GFL to schedule a pickup of bulky items. For safety purposes, please remove racks and doors from refrigerators and freezers.

Yard Waste

Yard waste is collected on the same day as Household Waste, but is collected by a separate truck. It is collected from April 1 through the end of November each year. Place yard waste in yard waste paper bags or in plastic/metal containers that are no larger than 32 gallon size. Brush and tree limbs larger than two inches in diameter should be bundled and tied with twine or rope (not wire) in 4-foot lengths and no more than 18 inches in diameter.

Place yard waste at the curb in front of your home no earlier than Thursday evening before the Friday pickup. Some residents have been placing yard waste in empty lots. This is considered illegal dumping and you will be prosecuted if you are caught!

What IS yard waste?

Yard waste includes: garden waste, leaves, lawn clippings, shrubs and tree trimmings.

What IS NOT yard waste:

Please do not place these items for yard waste collection: dirt, sand, sod, gravel, large stumps, animal feces, dead animals.
